The Biden official pledged that the United States would continue to support Ukraine, despite recent setbacks in aid that has been critical to its defense operations.

After Blinken appeared on stage with Ukrainian band 19.99, the audience erupted in joy.

Addressing the crowd, he said: “Your soldiers, your citizens – especially in the northeast, in Kharkiv – are suffering greatly. »

“But they need to know, you need to know, the United States is with you, much of the world is with you, and they are fighting not only for a free Ukraine, but for a free world. And the free world is with you too,” he added.

Blinken criticized for ‘poorly timed’ performance

Many X users called the performance of ’s top diplomat inappropriate given the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Some Ukrainians have even chastised him for what they see as poor judgment given Russia’s recent advance in northwest Ukraine.

In a Facebook post, Svitlana Matvienko, executive director of the NGO Agency for Legislative Initiatives, called the performance of the US Secretary of State “inappropriate”, saying it occurred at a time when Russia launched a new offensive in the Kharkiv region.

“The Kharkiv region is being erased from the Earth, people are leaving their homes, Kharkiv is being hit by aerial bombs. The Sumy region is preparing and a senior American official is singing songs in a Kiev bar,” she wrote.

Regarding X, Oleh Symoroz, a Ukrainian veteran who lost both legs in the conflict, called the performance “as inappropriate as possible.”

“Not the right time, not the right time at all. So many people are dying every day because we don’t have enough weapons or enough support from our allies,” he wrote.

“Therefore, I am sorry, such concerts are simply reckless and inappropriate. I advise the Secretary of State to visit a military cemetery rather than a bar,” Symoroz added.

Ukrainian politician Bogdan Yaremenko said Blinken’s performance was poorly timed.

While appreciating the invaluable assistance from the United States, Yaremenko said: “But we also cannot ignore anything that makes it seem like the United States playing for the free world is not rock and roll , but another music similar to the Russian song.”

Jimmy Rushton, a foreign policy expert in kyiv, called the performance “surprisingly tone-deaf.”

“It’s not supposed to be a [f—ing] vacation; Ukrainian soldiers are fighting and dying in huge numbers along the front lines and Blinken is in a bar in kyiv pretending to be a rockstar,” he tweeted.

Blinken also faced domestic criticism from the Republican National Committee (RNC), which said, “This is not a serious administration.”

Blinken landed in war-torn Ukraine to meet with top officials, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to demonstrate U.S. support for the nation. They were the first official discussions since Congress approved a major foreign aid package that included $60 billion for Ukraine’s military and its air defense systems.
