Dushyant Chautala’s JJP calls for floor test in as BJP loses majority

In light of three independent MLAs withdrawing their support for the Bharatiya Janata Party government in earlier this week, Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader and former deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala on Thursday wrote to the governor to tell him that his party did not support the party. BJP government and was willing to support any other political party in the state for government formation.

Mr. Chautala, senior national vice-president of the JJP, also sought directions from the BJP government to prove its majority in the House.

His letter to the governor came a day after he offered to “consider” external support for the Haryana Congress to oust the BJP government.

Referring to the withdrawal of support of three independent MLAs and the vacancy of two Assembly seats, Mr. Chautala, in his letter, said: “In view of these developments and the clear position of my party – viz. the JJP, which does not extend its support to the current government and is open to supporting any other political party for the formation of the government, it is evident that the existing government no longer has a majority in the Legislative Assembly.”

Stating that there was an urgent need to “restore stability” and “uphold democratic norms” in Haryana, Mr. Chautala, MP from Uchana, sought directions from the ruling government under the Article 174 of the Indian Constitution to prove his majority within the party. the House or the imposition of President’s rule.
