SHS Alumni Association awards $415,700 in scholarships

The High School Alumni Association hosted the 2024 Scholarship Ceremony, 143rd Annual Reunion and Alumni Open House on Saturday.

During the ceremony, the alumni association awarded 112 scholarships totaling $415,700 to 77 Salem High School graduates and recognized 35 alumni receiving postsecondary scholarships.

Since 1908, more than $9.6 million has been awarded to nearly 2,700 students.

Dr. Joseph A. Shivers of Salem was honored as a 2024 Salem High School Alumni Association Honored Alumnus. He served as superintendent of Salem City Schools from 2014 to 2019 and currently operates Dr. Joe’s Learning Center, LLC, where it provides K-12 tutoring, ACT and SAT preparation, and college admissions. The ceremony also honored the class of 50 years, the SHS Class of 1974, with a reflection given by class president Tom Jesko.

The mission of the Salem High School Alumni Association of Ohio shall be to award scholarships to qualified students; manage assets, including memories, for future generations; promote the development of students and alumni; and honoring the organization’s past by maintaining friendships and enriching memories.
