There are many temples in the country for Kannayya. One of them is Govind Dev Ji which is a world famous temple. There is no ordinary statue of Thakur Ji here. This idol was built by Vajranabha, grandson of Lord Krishna himself. Vajranabha is the son of Anirudha. People from all over the country come to this temple to have darshan of Kannayya. During Krishna Janmashtami, the temple is filled with devotees. This famous temple in , is unique in that it does not have a peak. Vajranabha asked his grandmother what Sri Krishna looked like. Then on the advice of his grandmother Kamsa built it with the same rock that killed his 7 brothers. Let’s know the complete history of this temple.

Sri Krishna’s grandson Vajranabha gave shape to the idol as narrated by his grandmother. When the first statue was made, the legs resembled those of a child. But the rest of the shape is not the same. After that, they made a second idol. When the second idol was made, the legs and body were identical…but not like the form of Sri Krishna. The first idol created is Madana Mohan in Karauli and the second one is Gopinatha in Jaipur Old Colony. After these two idols, Anirudh made a third. As soon as the third statue was finished, his grandmother agreed. Because the complete form of Lord Krishna is present in the idol of Govindu in this temple.

How did the three idols get to different places?

Later, Aurangzeb’s terror increased. Then many Hindu temples were demolished. This 7-story temple is located in Vrindavan. Then King Mansingh of Amer took this idol and installed it first in Govardhan, then in Kama and again from Govindpur Ropara in Amer and installed it here. Now this statue is located in Surya Mahal. It is not a temple but a solar house. Thus, the sacred image of Govindu is called “Bajrakrit”, which means created by lightning.

Sri Siva Ram Goswami was a servant of Lord Govind Devji in the 15th century. Many Hindu temples were demolished during the reign of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Sri Sivaram Goswami first moved the holy idols to Kama (), Radhakund and then to the village of Govindpura (Sanganer). Then the rulers of Amer changed the holy idols. In 1714, the idols were taken to Kanaka Vrindavan in the Amer Valley. Finally, in 1715, he was taken to Jai Niwas in Amer.

Sawai Jai Singh is believed to have lived in Suraj Mahal. One day he dreamed of leaving the palace because this palace was for Sri Govinda Devji. After that he left from there and went to Chandramahal. Thus, Gobind Dev Ji was enshrined in the Suraj Mahal before the foundation of Jaipur was laid.
